What are dental implants?

The implant is the “screw” which is placed in the jaw in order to replace one or several teeth. Dental implants are the option for the patients who have lost one or more teeth due to the periodontal disease, injury or for some other reason.

Are you the candidate for the dental implants?

Before the implant is inserted, it is necessary to determine if the patient has an adequate oral and general health. Also, an important issue is to determine the quality and the density of the jaw bone. For this, it is obligatory to conduct the analysis of the appropriate tooth imaging (3D) which provides the necessary data.

How are the implants implanted?

The procedure itself is simple and quick and most importantly, it is painless. After the numbing of the given area, a small incision is made on the gums, through which the implant is screwed in the jaw bone. After that, the incision is sewn with a few stitches and that is the whole procedure.

What happens after the implantation?

After the implantation, it is necessary to wait, most often for 3 months, so that the bone and the implant would “bond together”. After that period, it is possible to put the tooth crowns or the bridgework on the implants.

Is it possible to correct the complete tooth loss by implants?

Yes, it is. In this case, numerous implants are inserted, on which, later on, the bridgework for the entire jaw is placed. Naturally, certain conditions for this procedure must be fulfilled, in the sense of the appropriate quality and shape of the jaw bone.

How to behave after the dental implant surgery?

For a couple of days after the surgery, one should avoid solid foods as well as smoking, if one is a smoker. Cold compress on the cheeks will relieve the swelling which normally happens after the procedure. It is of an essential importance to maintain oral hygiene in order to reduce the possibility of an infection.

How to maintain the crowns on the implants?

Maintaining the oral hygiene should remain the same. Apart from the regular toothbrush, it is advised to use the interdental toothbrush and dental floss in order to ensure that the teeth cleaning is more thorough.
